Dr. Juan Garay

Jefe de Cooperación Delegación de la Unión Europea en Cuba

Licenciado en medicina, especializado en medicina interna, enfermedades infecciosas y salud pública. En 2002 se unió a la Union Europea trabajando en el diseño de políticas y programas en salud. En los años 80 y 90, combinó actividades clínicas, de salud pública, investigación y desarrollo de programas de salud (por ejemplo algunos de los primeros programas de acceso al tratamiento del SIDA en África), en diferentes países de Europa, África y América, y tanto con ONGs como con universidades y gobiernos. En el año 2002, se incorporó a la Unión Europea, coordinando las políticas y programas de salud en la cooperación de la Unión Europea para el desarrollo. Ello lo llevó a profundizar las raíces de la salud en el área de derechos humanos, coordinando el desarrollo de la política de derechos de la infancia en la acción externa y del enfoque multisectorial de la salud, y coordinando también el desarrollo de la política europea de salud global.

​Dr. Ronald Burt

Profesor Booth School of Business - The University of Chicago

American sociologist and the Hobart W. Williams Professor of Sociology and Strategy at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is most notable for his research and writing on social networks and social capital, particularly the concept of structural holes in a social network.Ronald Burt studies the ways that social networks create competitive advantage in careers, organizations, and markets (see research tab on personal website for downloads). He joined the Chicago Booth faculty in 1993. He is the author of several books on sociology, organization behavior and network analysis, including Structural Holes: The Social Structure of Competition (Harvard University Press, 1992) and Brokerage and Closure: An Introduction to Social Capital (Oxford University Press, 2005) His research has been published in numerous academic journals, including Administrative Science Quarterly, American Journal of Sociology, Journal of Organization Behavior, Organization Science, Social Networks, Sociological Inquiry, and others.

Director Max - Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam

Chemical from Erlangen (Germany) with a PhD in biochemistry from Boulder (USA). After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Research in New York he advanced to tenured Firmenich Associate Professor of Chemistry at MIT. After six years as Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich he assumed positions as Director at the Max-Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam and Professor at the Free University of Berlin in 2009. In addition, he serves as honorary Professor at the University of Potsdam. From 2003-2014 he was Affiliate Professor at the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research (La Jolla, USA). He is a member of the governing bodies of the Max-Planck Society (“Senate”) and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (“Rat”). Professor Seeberger’s research on the chemistry and biology of carbohydrates, carbohydrate vaccine development and continuous flow synthesis of drug substances spans a broad range of topics from engineering to immunology.
